Built by the Jersey City branch of the Young Men's Christian Association in 1924, the edifice to provide recreation and housing in an atmosphere of Christian supervision. The architect was John E. Jackson, designer of over seventy Y.M.C.A. projects. Originally included was a reading room, billiard rooms, a bowling alley, and a swimming pool. Only the beautiful pool is still in use.
Though no longer managed by the Y.M.C.A, the location still provides single room residences and a wide range of activities and services, now run by The Community Builders.
